Over the past two years, Uzbekistan's securities market has experienced explosive growth, with its capitalization tripling to surpass the $25 billion mark. Concurrently, the over-the-counter market turnover has surged more than 40-fold. This massive leap indicates a profound structural transformation driven by a modernized legal framework and the active entry of Uzbek issuers into the international arena.
The primary institutional driver of this growth is the updated legislation. The newly expanded 16-chapter legal framework has successfully removed entry barriers for foreign nominal holders, ensuring a streamlined and direct inflow of foreign capital. Simultaneously, the introduction of modern financial instruments, such as Islamic securities and currency-denominated bonds, is enhancing overall market liquidity and attracting a diverse range of global investors.
To elevate the market infrastructure to international standards, national brokers and investment institutions are actively integrating with major global financial hubs, including Hong Kong, London, and Frankfurt. According to the strategy outlined by the National Association of Investment Institutions (NAII), expanding international ties will significantly boost the profitability of local market participants. This will enable direct and sustained reinvestment into IT infrastructure, advanced market analytics, and human capital development. Consequently, Uzbekistan's financial market is rapidly transforming from a traditional local venue into a robust international hub capable of financing major private and state-owned corporations.
