Editorial policy

What we publish

News, analysis and explanatory pieces on the economy, finance, markets, technology and the public policy that shapes them.

We favour material grounded in documents, financial reporting, statistics and direct comment from the people involved.

Fact-checking

Figures, dates and quotations are checked against a primary source: a report, an official publication, a document or a direct recording.

If a claim cannot be verified, we either leave it out or state whose claim it is and why it cannot be confirmed.

We name the source of our data in the article and link to it where possible.

Editorial independence

Decisions on publication, headlines and judgements rest with the newsroom. Advertisers, partners and article subjects do not approve editorial copy.

Commercial interest does not decide whether we publish critical coverage of a company that advertises with us.

Separating editorial and commercial content

Paid and partner material carries a visible label and is technically distinct from editorial work.

Authors

Every article has a named author with a profile on this site. We do not publish analysis from anonymous authors.

The author is responsible for the facts in their article; the editor is responsible for compliance with this policy.

Artificial intelligence

We use AI as a support tool — for transcription, draft translation and summaries.

Published material always passes through a person: the substance, the conclusions and the responsibility remain with the newsroom.
