Corrections policy
We make mistakes, as every newsroom does. The difference is that we correct them openly rather than quietly.
What counts as an error
Incorrect facts: figures, dates, names, job titles, company names, misquotations and wrongly attributed sources.
Disagreement with our judgement is not an error: objecting to a conclusion is not grounds for changing the text.
How to report an error
Write to us using our contact details, giving the article URL, what is wrong and what your statement is based on.
A link to a document or official publication speeds up the check.
Timing
We review reports within three working days.
Serious factual errors — a wrong figure in a headline, the wrong company, a distorted quotation — are corrected as soon as they are confirmed.
How corrections are marked
A corrected article carries an update date, visible to readers and passed to search engines.
Substantive corrections are noted at the end of the text: what was changed and when.
We do not delete articles quietly. If a piece is withdrawn in full, an explanation stays in its place.
Right of reply
Where an article concerns a company or a person and makes claims they dispute, we publish their position.
The response appears alongside the article or as a separate piece linking back to it.
